Could you please introduce yourself and what you do in the band?
My Christian name is Andrew Atkins. I recently have become know as Dozer of A Plea for Purging. I sing/scream/yell/get made rude on the mic for APFP.
Could you give a brief summary of your bands origin?
5 totally different dudes from the southeast end up in the greater Nashville area. After many failed attempts at breaking into the Nashville scene in different bands, those 5 dudes totally decided to rock together harder than any 5 dudes ever have or ever will.
What inspired your band name?
Blake Martin came up with a snazzy way to say A Prayer for Cleansing all the while not knowing there was a sizable band already called A Prayer for Cleansing. 3 years later, lambgoaters still can't let an APFP post go without the APFC reference. Lets just call it paying homage.
In your own words describe your sound to someone who’s never heard of you?
Two hardcore kids, a couple numetal dudes, and a new school scene kid try to blend meshuggah and radiohead together, while trying to keep up with the current trends of metalcore.
What current projects are you guys currently working on?
Our new record DEPRAVITY comes out March 3rd 09, with that being said, we plan to tour our little butts off in support of that record. We have many dates planned this year. We are wrapping up headlining run right now. We will be doing some supporting tours with Full Blown Chaos, See You Next Tuesday, For Today, Recon, Arsonists Get All The Girls, as well as another headlining tour in late April. This summer we will be out on tour and hitting as many festivals as possible. I guess that's about it, oh yeah, and taking over the world.
What were some of your main influences on your new album “Depravity”?
Meshuggah, radiohead, burritos, and dislike of human nature.
How does the song writing process work for your band?
Most songs start with Blake(Martin, guitarist) writing some riffs and basic song structure. Then we all get together and put our input on it and the rest is history. Maybe a few returns to the drawing board here and there. We tend to track a lot of demos to hash out the song until we come up with a solid finished product.
Could you elaborate on the song “Malevolence”, track 3 off Depravity?
Malevolence is the 1st single off of Depravity. We shot a video with director, Andy Reale for the song. It should be out soon. Malevolence is about becoming something you never meant to be because you played with the idea of "what if" and letting your selfish desires get the best of you.
What do you consider to make this album different from your other releases?
We definitely got heavier on this record musically as well as approached more serious and darker subjects. We feel it is the most honest release we could've put out, musically and lyrically. We wrote the record we wanted to write and we are proud of it. We can't say that about our earlier releases.
I know you guys tour like crazy, What are some of your favorite Venues to play at when on tour?
We love tour and all the awesome places it has given us the opportunity to see. We all love playing Rocketown in Nashvile. Its our home. The Brothers in Owensboro Ky rules more than any place ever. I really like Donnie and Courtney at the Foundry in Joplin, MO.
If you guys could share the stage with any band (past or present) who would it be and why?
Slipknot. Why? Cause they are Slipknot. Nuff said!
Anything that you would like to say in closing?
Thanks for checking us out and giving me the chance to speak about our band. 2009 is gonna be a killer time, so come out to a show and pick up a CD!
