Often times some good stuff comes our way musically, and instantly becomes a regular in our rotation. This is the case with Last Call, an unsigned band from Nevada that totally won me over. After listening to the songs on their myspace page i couldn’t help but think they were songs that some other folks may be stoked about listening to also. We had the chance to ask these fellas a few questions about what they’ve got in store, and what you can expect if you catch them when they’re touring in your town.
Who exactly am i talking to, and what is it you do in the band?
We’re all going over these together. We’ve got:
Fidel Romero (Guitar/Vocals)
Adam Blasco (Drums)
Ryan Stokke (Guitar)
Tim Desagun (Bass)
Austin Jeffers (Vocals)
A background of Last Call (How you started, What you guys are all about) ?
Fidel & I (Adam) started Last Call at the end of 2008. We recorded our first EP with Paul Miner (New Found Glory, Fireworks, H2O), and got a great response. We decided to take the next step and tour. At the beginning of 2010, we went through a few changes in the line-up. We played a show with The Wonder Years, which was a few of the guys last show with us. It was at that show that Austin approached us about singing for the band, and Tim filled the spot as bassist. The first time we all jammed, it felt good. So that brings us about to where we are now. We recently went back to visit Paul, and recorded our second release “12:57″. Now, we’re putting everything into writing new songs and getting ready to tour full time. We’re pretty much about writing and playing the music we love for people who appreciate it as much as we do. We’re also having as much fun as we can in the process.
Do you guys tour often? (if yes) What was your last tour, where’d you go, and who was it with?
Our last tour was winter 2009 with our friends in From The Top. We covered most of the western US. Since changes in the line-up, we’ve been working on writing new songs, and we’ve played out-of-town shows every chance we get. We’re quickly moving toward becoming a full-time touring band. Hopefully taking that step in the next few months.
You guys are releasing a 7″, will this release also be available on CD? What inspired you to go with Vinyl?
Each vinyl will also include a CD copy of the record. We decided to go with a vinyl because it was a great option for a 4-song release, and most of us think that vinyl is pretty rad. It was a no brainer.
What are your views on the direction of the Music Industry these days? What are you doing as a band to try and get “Ahead of the curve” so to speak?
The music industry is in a downward spiral. We don’t have a sweeping bowl cut, and don’t wear coats made from Muppets, but we do as much as we possibly can ourselves. We’ve got a DIY mentality, and do whatever it takes, and sometimes more than we really should to do keep what we love.
Alright, so let’s say I’m in the crowd, and I’m about to see Last Hit the stage. What can I expect to see go down?
Intensity.
Let’s have your craziest, or most interesting story since you’ve been together?
Adam rode a turtle down a river. Oh….. and the shotgun pulled on us in Arizona.
What are some of the bands active right now that are really inspiring you guys, local or otherwise.
It’s hard to say. We have so many different influences and love so much music. Honestly… Anyone making music with their whole heart.
Which album has you totally stoked right now?
Transit “Keep This To Yourself”
David Bazan “Curse Your Branches”
The Wonder Years “The Upsides”
Any big plans, or cool stuff coming up in the near future?
New Van. New Songs. Tour Dates… and a dentist appointment.
Justin Bieber, Brittney Spears, Lindsay Lohan ,Kim Kardashian are hanging from a cliff. You can only save one of them. Who do you save, and why?
I’d save Kim… done. Love, Austin
