This E.P. is short and sweet – a five song effort from New Haven, CT’s CASTING CALL, with a total running time of about 11 ½ minutes. It is packed with great influences. For instance, my favorite track “I’ll Keep My Heart” has an A Day To Remember feel to it with the catchy chorus and ADTR-esque transitions throughout. Casting Call’s lead singer, Matthew LaPerche even sounds similar to ADTR’s vocalist Jeremy McKinnon. I’d consider all of this a step in the right direction.
I also like the dynamics of “Nights Like These” where it starts out with acoustic guitar and vocals and eventually goes into the full band. This song reminds me of The Wonder Years’ “Hey Thanks,” substituting TWY’s ukulele with an acoustic guitar. From track to track, the album segues smoothly, every song has a unique sound.
Take all that and speed it up a little bit, and you have this great pop punk EP. (TS)
