Sharing influences from pop punk and gritty indie rock, Say Hello is chocked full of distorted guitar work, driving rhythms, and seemingly endless melodies that soar with a thundering arena rock vibe. Though the buzz around the band has largely been that this borrows a lot from pop-punk, BORN WITHOUT BONES throw plenty of curveballs, injecting pianos and trumpets and by the second half of the disc they slow down the tempos with back to basics sparseness and pensive moments of forthright emotion. Though I wouldn’t say they necessarily sound like them, mid period SAVES THE DAY comes to mind here, BORN WITHOUT BONES being able to shift back and forth from upbeat, driving pop melodies directly into quieter, melancholic balladry with the greatest of ease.
This is the kind of music that could fill stadiums with it’s often loud, powerful rock, but will modestly settle for small venues and basements. As a reference point, imagine DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE on steroids if JONAH MATRANGA was their frontman. (Tom Haugen)
