Cobra Skulls Tour Diary – Part 3

NEW JERSEY

Who wants to spend their day off getting new brakes in New Jersey!? Oh! Oh! Us please!

Not happy.

PHILADELPHIA, PA

We knew our show was going up against the NOFX/ANTI-FLAG/OLD MAN MARKLEY show, so we weren’t too sure how it was going to go, but it ended up being packed and the crowd was a lot of fun thanks for our friend Tony who promotes and sets up shows with great locals.

These Philly cheese steak sandwiches taste just like how I would imagine xenophobia to taste…

BALTIMORE, MD

Though rainy, the show at Otto Bar was a blast and it was the first night of tour Chris from Nothington played “On & On” with us which is a song he sings on our new album “Agitations.” We had delicious Jamaican food that night. Apparently Otto Bar is in a Jamaican neighborhood-rad! And check out this billboard that was across the street!

Someone save that poor dog from that dog-hating punk!

RICHMOND, VA

Short drive allowed for an impromptu bowling tournament between Nothington and Cobra Skulls. Needless to say, we got the chicken trophy! Woo! We were stoked that Landmines played the show that night. They were an amazing band and I’m glad that this week I got the chance to play with and see them twice.

Strike! …f’real!

FIl turkeyed!

RALEIGH, NC

Played in a venue that was awesome but way too big for our show. I was fearing an awkward set, but luckily everyone was a little loose by the time we played and there was a decent amount of people there so we had a great show after all thanks again to Scotty from Death to False Hope. Also a band from New Zealand, The Outsiders, who had played a few times with us before on this tour played with us again in Raleigh – check them out!

ATLANTA, GA

The show in Atlanta was sold out beyond capacity and it was just pure insanity. Posie and The Party Pyrates got the crowd rowdy to begin with and everyone just kept it up to the very end. And the most random part was that Andre 3000 of Outkast came to the show all low key with no entourage. Jay from Nothington asked what he was doing there and Andre’s response was, “Well, I’m here to see a punk show.” Some locals said he’s known to do this from time to time. How cool is that?

Check out this creepy paparazzi photo of Jay Nothington and Andre 3000!

BIRMINGHAM, AL

I can’t say we’ve ever had a great show here, but the people who run the Firehouse always treat us well and it’s actually a really cool venue, though there’s not a lot around. After the show I decided to ride with Nothington to Jay’s parents’ house in Atlanta where we stayed the night, but not after getting some good ole’s discount beers!

Beer specials in Alabama!

CHARLOTTE, NC

Tremont Music Hall was a cool place and everyone there was super nice and we got to play a show with Dead To Me, Banner Pilot, and Nothington. It was rad to catch up with friends and have a hotel party! How did the managers not kick us out!? I would have complained about that shit if I was a legitimate customer!

WILMINGTON, NC

Second time at the Soapbox. That place is rad and we played a killer pre-fest show with rad bands like Luther, Bangers, Landmines, and many more. Shit part of the show is we had to book it straight to Gainesville, but the ride was fun cuz Ian from Dead To Me came with us! Guy is a sweet heart! Awww!

GAINESVILLE, FL

Pre-Fest Show! Fest is getting longer. We were in Gainesville for 5 days! Thursday was our “Pre” Fest show at Double Down. The show was awesome! The next day we played our official show at the same time as Kid Dynamite (really wanted to see them!!!), but our set was still amazing fun. So many bands had amazing shows this year. I think it was my favorite Fest yet! CS’s third. Had to jump between and only see half sets of some bands, but I maneuvered well. Flatliners won best costume by far! I finally got to try out the penguin suit and thought I should crow surf during Nothington’s set. Check it out:

PENSACOLA, FL

Got to see and play with Old Man Markley and they played an awesome show, like always. This was especially cool, because we missed them at Fest. Love those guys and gals and we always have fun. What was with that gigantic venue with the fog machine, though? Awk. Ward!

Bella loves Old Man Markley!

HOUSTON, TX

Started feeling sick today. Too much fun at Fest and with OMM started catching up on me and the weather started changing and then rain! Hard Rain, the Christian Slater kind. And a fun show with the Anchor at Mango’s. And tasty margaritas!

SAN ANTONIO, TX

Started feeling sicker…er more sick. But the show was insane! Mike stands were useless. On the way out of town we decided to see the Alamo, finally, as we have never been though it was probably our 8th show in San Antonio. Security was tight, though and Bella was not allowed in, so we said fuggit and went across the street to Ripley’s Believe it or Not and had a much better time with their entryway display…cuz you know were not paying entry to that shit!

That’s as far as Bella could get to the Alamo…place sucks anyway, let’s go to Ripley’s!

Sorry, Bella, you’re lunch!

AUSTIN, TX

Fun Fun Fun Fest! My sickness rapidly turned into what I started suspecting was thee ole laryngitis and my voice was cracking and non-existent throughout the whole set. Afterwards I could barely talk. Went to bed early.

FT. WORTH, TX

I didn’t even sing this show. Adam did an awesome job singing what he knew, including both parts on “Hot Sand” – rad! And then someone came up and sang every word to “Hasta Los Cobra Skulls Siempre” perfectly!

Fan sings Hasta Los Cobra Skulls Siempre when Devin loses voice:

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK

Adam was losing his voice, too so I got checked up at one of those Doc in the Box med stop things and, sure enough, I had laryngitis. Got some antibiotics, but unfortunately, we had to cancel that show and the next night in Albuquerque as well. Missing or canceling shows is the worst.

Laryngitis… What can you do?

SCOTTSDALE, AZ

We almost cancelled this show, but thought we should give it a try and we’re glad we did, because people drove from Prescott, Flagstaff and Tucson for the show and it was a great time.

ESCONDIDO, CA

Back to the West Coast! So happy to have made it almost all the way home and that our van did not explode. Got to hang with Adam’s brother and hot tub!

POMONA, CA

VLHS Warehouse! Even better than the Chino one! Things got a little crazy, but not out of hand. Okay, maybe a little out of hand, but only at the bar down the street where 50 year olds were singing karaoke to “Rump Shaker” and other ‘90’s beach party classics like Naughty By Nature and Salt N Peppa!

HOLLYWOOD, CA

Had to take my amp into Amp Rehab. It quit working n the middle of the set last night! Luckily we were playing with those New Jersey Mooches the Bouncing Souls at Troubador and they just happen to be the most generous, sharing mooches you’ll meet and Brian let me use his rig. BS are one of the best live bands and punk bands of all time – such a fun night!

So stoked for the Colova Skulls! Thanks, Doug…

SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Last night of tour was sold out, packed and crazy. I think a 10 year-old kid was crowd surfing. I was so stoked Heartsounds and Civil War Rust played – both bands killed it. The last day of tour is always over before you know it, much like the whole tour is over before you know it and it’s very bittersweet. I don’t think I even got to say hello or goodbye to half the people I wanted to, but we got to hang our with some of our friends after the show, had a great time and then we all got to go home!
