Rock ‘n Roll Reserve EP is a six song release from MARGATE, and right out of the gate, the album starts with a song that has me running from an authority figure in a state of anger and panic (a solid start for a punk album), and a great anthem for all the “occupying” going on nowadays. Next comes a cover of “Eleanor Rigby” which is a great cover, and one that I felt would be suitable for a cover compilation. While playing through the album this would be the song I’d be skipping, not because I don’t like it, but because it interrupts the flow of the album – I enjoy the high-energy originals. The title track, ‘Rock ‘n Roll Reserve,’ is a great take on living life while involved in the music industry (creative music video is out for this song too, definitely worth checking out). At the end, their track ‘The Road,’ slows the album down, and appropriately in this circumstance. It incorporates a well-placed guitar solo that somehow retains the “coming down” mood of the last track, as well as fading out until there’s only vocals remaining – a nice touch on a good album.
