Jordan Brown (Keyboardist) of Set Your Goals – Remembering Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Bullet With Butterfly Wings”

This video should need no introduction. Directed by cult film director John Landis (see ‘An American Werewolf In London’), ‘Thriller’ is an epic 14 minute story that pays homage to the zombie and werewolf horror-genre of the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s. The video inter-splices between song and story over several different scenes, qualifying it as more of a musical short film than a music video. If you haven’t seen this, this is one you need to catch up on!

One of the best performances from both band and extras, and possibly one of the best solo performances (by lead member Billy Corgan), ‘bullet’ offers a grungy, grimy look at what was probably running through the minds of smashing pumpkins when they wrote the song. The colors and edits still hold up to today’s standards, and I’d say, in fact, they beat out 95% of what’s currently out there. A video like this could never be re-created, and I’m glad it exists!
