Retro-Video: Ben Murray of Heartsounds talks Lagwagon’s “Razorburn”

Ben Murray (Vocals, Guitar) of Heartsounds – Looking at Lagwagon’s “Razorburn”

I first saw this video when I was 12 or 13 on the Fat Wreck Chords “Peep Show” VHS video compilation. This was right around the time that I was getting into most of the punk bands that still hold significant influence over Heartsounds today. 10 years later, this song sounds just as good as it did back then, and causes a wave of nostalgia to wash over me. All of the videos on those compilations (and similar ones like “Cinema Beer Nuts” or “Cinema Beer Goggles”) never took themselves seriously, and were always really funny/fun, which would be a nice change in today’s music scene. So many videos these days use ridiculous budgets and effects and the bands take themselves WAY too seriously. Lagwagon epitomizes how awesome a band can be without acting like total assholes and expecting the world to praise them as rock gods. So in summation, this video really reminds me of how awesome punk rock can be, and how great of a time that was for fast punk rock bands like the Epitaph/Fat wave of the mid to late 90′s.
