THIS ROMANTIC TRAGEDY
Interview with
Guitarist David Diaz
By Alexa Rabini

I remember when I first saw THIS ROMANTIC TRAGEDY in 2008 at a small music venue in Las Vegas called Jillian’s. Since then they have had their ups, downs, and line-up changes just like any other band, but have grown throughout these past three years. In May of 2009, they signed to Tragic Hero Records, and recently released their first full-length album Reborn.

Your new record just came out and you are about to tour with MEMPHIS MAY FIRE, do you have any other plans or goals for 2011?
We plan on touring with national acts for the rest of the year to really get our album out there, though we have no official tours that we can release any info about at this moment!

What inspired the new album, and what was it like to record with Will Putney?
This album has concepts going from apocalyptic events, consciousness, and “conspiracies,” to our main message of finding your true will and inner happiness in life. Will Putney was the perfect guy for the job. He has an open mind, which really allowed us to show our full potential in this record.

What is your favorite song on the record and the story behind it?
We honestly do not favor one song over another. All our songs have deep meanings that are special to us. We see our album as an experience from start to finish. Music is emotion and emotion is art. This is our art.

Being from Las Vegas, what are some of your favorite places on or off the strip?
We honestly don’t go to the strip all that much. We all have our favorites, but I would have to say In-N-Out Burger.

Do you have any crazy lights or lighting for your upcoming tour?
We just programmed our brand new light show and we are using it for the very first time here on The Hollow Tour. They are definitely a trip!

You went through a line-up change due to the vocalist, how difficult was that?
Of course letting our previous vocalist go was a set back, but one well worth the wait. The new TRT has an unbreakable bond and for the first time in a while, the band feels complete. The addition of Sean Neumann, Chad Dague, and Evan Ellis was exactly what the line-up needed.

In your free time what do you guys like to do?

We like to play progressive jams when we aren’t playing our songs. Call us hippies, but the emotion felt when we all lock minds in a jam is like a wave for a surfer. There is just not a better feeling than that connection.

Last, but not least, what has been the best venue you have played?

We have yet to find that venue! But, I’m sure we will find one to answer that at some point this year.
