Coming off last years phenomenal Strange Behavior 12“ EP, Philadelphia’s RESTORATIONS return with more music designed for ‘grown up punks’. Though Philadelphia historically produces lots of harder edged independent music, these guys are making waves on the opposite side of the spectrum, playing a more sophisticated, lush type of sound, though which still carries the powerful  impact of some of their more abrasive peers.

A record that really does not apply to just aging punks, RESTORATIONS work primarily with a post-punk and alt-country template, though the band has their roots firmly inbedded in DIY hardcore (members of JEAN BERLIN, NO ROSES and LITTLE LEAGUE make up RESTORATIONS). A band whose players have dabbled in many different sub genres of indie rock, this outing takes on a rustic approach to songwriting, these 8 tracks entailing soulful and gritty songwriting, guitars washed in reverb and an unrelenting rhythm section, frontman Jon Loudon’s raspy/gravely voice guiding the way.

Though their Strange Behavior disc was nothing short of amazing, this outing trumps anything the band have done, showcasing their unique ability to fuse Americana, folk, shoegaze and roots rock all with a punk rock spirit. (TH)
