Cincinnati’s MIXTAPES have more than earned a spot in the area of ‘pop punk bands you must hear’, and have been garnering new fans everywhere thanks to consistent touring, appearances at The Fest, a few releases on the digital label Death To False Hope Records and now this 7“ on Animal Style Records which collects 6 songs of buzzing guitar work, perfect female/male vocals, endearing harmonies and even some piano driven acoustic. A mostly cheerful display of reckless youthfulness that contains a lot of positive energy filled with punchy hooks, MIXTAPES can pen a memorable punk tune but aren’t afraid to switch gears with a haunting duet complete with violins. Limited to a mere 500 on three colorways (orange/yellow mix, lime green, electric blue) and containing a free donload code with a bonus track (a HOLD STEADY cover!), it’s nice to see a 7“ record that uses up some space for a change (6 songs in 12 minutes).
